Nokia 5230 comes to rock the equilibrium

Nokia 5230The unveiling of the Nokia 5230 is a clear stab at the other producers and shows that Nokia intends to take the touchscreen range of phones seriously. The announcement of the Nokia 5230 is hot on the heels of the release of the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, which is quite a hit, to say the least. The Nokia 5230 is an entry – level touchscreen phone which looks and has the same dimensions as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. However, the Nokia 5230 lacks in the Wi-Fi department and the camera department, where the camera is just 2 megapixels as opposed to the 3.2 megapixel camera on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Similar to the Nokia 5800, there is a 3.2 inch resistive touchscreen on the Nokia 5230 and it has the same 640x360 pixels resolution, microSD memory card support, 3.5 mm headset jack (to enable you to plug in your favourite headset and the FM radio. The camera has been dampened to 2 megapixels. However, Nokia have decided to keep the video recording intact with VGA quality possible @ 30 fps.

The Symbian S60 5th edition OS is what is used on the Nokia 5230 and also has the same battery as the 5800 XpressMusic, which is absolutely good news. The phones comes with a 1320 mAh battery, which is a great improvement on the 1000 mAh battery which comes with the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

The Nokia 5230 Reviews have been quite positive for the phone. The 5230 will be released sometime during the last 3 months of the year, according to Nokia, for a price of 150 Euro (£138) before any subsidies or taxes. The phone will also come in a second edition, with the Comes With Music package, to certain markets for a price of 259 euro (£236) before any taxes or subsidies. There will probably be some other great Nokia 5230 deals coming out after its release so watch this space.

Need a good & discreet phone? LG GW550 is the answer

LG GW550When we showed the LG GW550 to people and put a tape over LG’s logo, they asked whether it was a new BlackBerry phone! Such was the resemblance to BlackBerry phones, accentuated mainly by the QWERTY keyboard, which is extremely similar to that found in most BlackBerry phones. In hindsight, this is a good thing to do as BlackBerry have, undoubtedly, had a lot of success in selling their phones. There haven’t been a lot of LG GW550 Reviews, so let’s open the lid on the GW550.

If you’re going to buy this phone to show it off, I would advise you not to as it doesn’t really have eye – catching looks. The navigation keys are wedged between the screen and the QWERTY keyboard. The TFT screen, 2.5 inches in length, can display 65,000 colours and has a resolution of 320x240 pixels.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard OS comes pre – installed on the phone. The UI isn’t very flashy, but it doesn’t make phone navigation difficult. The phone supports IM as well as push-email. PDF and Office files can only be viewed but not edited.

Media player is good and supports MP3, WMA and AAC songs. Songs are classified according to artist, album and genre. Video formats supported are 3GP and MPEG4. The internal memory of the phone can be expanded via the microSD memory card slot upto 8 GB.

A 3.2 megapixel camera is present and is quite capable. Pictures and videos can be edited using the pre-installed editor. HSDPA and HSUPA internet connectivity is available to surf the internet at high speeds. If you are in a place which doesn’t support 3G connectivity, HSCSD, EDGE and GPRS connectivity come to the rescue.

Overall, a good phone with decent looks and good functionality. Though no pricing or release date details have been released, we expect it to get released during the 3rd quarter of this year. Closer to this time there will be many great LG GW550 on contract deals around so be sure to shop around for the very best.

Windows & HTC combine for a great phone!

HTC Touch2There would have been a fair number of us who were waiting so eagerly for an official word of the upgraded version of the HTC Touch PDA phone. It has finally been given an official release date and a price. The HTC Touch 2, which was initially known as the HTC Mega, is the first Windows Mobile 6.5 ready phone to come from the HTC labs and will retail SIM – free for 299 Pounds from the 12th of October. All the HTC Touch 2 Reviews have been good so far, so lets have a look at what’s brewing.

The HTC Touch2 is very much similar in looks to the original Touch but is more rounded at the bottom of the phone. The Touch2 is also the first phone to come bundled with MyPhone, which is an online storage facility.

The MyPhone feature is a superb product from Microsoft. It allows you to store the files and contacts on your phone onto their storage facility. The best part of this is that the HTC Touch2 enables you to store these online without the services of a computer, making data backup much easier.

You will also be able to access Microsoft’s Marketplace on the HTC Touch2 (similar to Apple’s iTunes store and Nokia’s OVI store), where purchases can be made for apps to complement the Touch2.

The Touch2 is a brilliant phone to surf the internet. The big 2.8 inch TFT LCD touch screen enables you to view web pages just like you would on your computer. You can also zoom in to the pages using the zoom feature at the bottom of the screen. The web browser also supports viewing flash items, meaning that pages such as YouTube are easily accessible on your phone.

The other highlights of the phone include Bluetooth, Qualcomm 528 MHz processor, 3.5 mm audio jack, Wi-Fi, 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G with HSDPA and GPS. Make sure you check out all the great HTC Touch2 deals when they come out.

Slide with Nokia

Nokia 6760 SlideAs the Nokia Surge went on sale nearly a month ago, rumours starting spreading about a European version of the Surge in the form of the Nokia 6760 Slide. The biggest improvement in the Nokia 6760 Slide when compared to the Surge is the camera, which is now 3 megapixels as opposed to 2 megapixels. The lack of branding from the carrier (AT&T’s ‘marks’ were visible on the Surge) is pretty much the other difference.

The Nokia 6760 Slide, like the Nokia Surge, is powered by the Symbian OS and is a side – slider which reveals the full QWERTY keyboard and 3.6 Mbps HSDPA. Quad-band GSM support is also present in addition to the local connectivity options, which come in the form of Bluetooth, microUSB and a 2.5 mm headset jack.

The AT&T Navigator has been chucked away in favour of Nokia Maps. There are also a large number of messaging software in the form of Google Talk, Nokia Messaging and Windows Live IM. You can also easily access social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. The presence of support for all these social – apps clearly shows that the focus of the Nokia 6760 slide is on developing their presence in the ‘social – centric’ market. The features sheet of the Nokia 6760 slide is rounded off by the 128 MB internal memory, which can be expanded to 8 GB via the microSD memory card slot, and the FM radio. The phone has a standby time of 500 hours and 5 hours of talk time.

The Nokia 6760 slide is set to be made available in the 3rd quarter of 2009 for 199 Euros before taxes or subsidies. Initially, the phone will only be available in black but, with time, the white and the red versions should also make an appearance. However, the latter 2 versions might not be available everywhere.

If you have been thinking of purchasing the Nokia 6760 Slide then Moby1 is a good website to go to. They compare lots of deals so you can get some idea of whats on offer and get the contract more suited to your personal needs.

Samsung S9110

Samsung S9110LG has already let it rip with the LG GD910 watch phone very recently and though it is a bit expensive, the fact that you can make calls with your watch seems to make it worth. Samsung have decided not to stand back and watch and have released what is known as the thinnest watch phone ever, the Samsung S9110, which is set to be released by the end of the year.

The Samsung S9110 is a small watch phone which has a number of features such as MP3 ringtones, Bluetooth, personal organizer, MMS, SMS, and vibration alert as well. Other messaging options present in the phone include E-mail as well. Making use of a 1.76 inch touchscreen display, this watch phone has nearly all the major functions that you get in a normal phone. The features extend to include speaker phone, voice recognition and a music player.

The Samsung S9110 measures in at a mere 11.98 millimeters. The scratch resistant glass, in addition to the leather wrist belt and the stainless steel metal body make it a truly classical device. Quite unlike those other massive wristwatch phones, the S9110 has a very nice and aesthetically pleasing look. The estimated price of this phone is set to be at 450 euros. This tiny watch phone is capable of operating on 900/1800MHz networks and has an internal memory of 40 MB.

Are you confused with regard to the battery of this phone? It makes use of a 630mAh battery, thereby enabling it to run for a fairly long time. However, Samsung have not released any details regarding the standby time and the talk time of the phone. Some disappointment for UK fans comes in the form of a message from Samsung, which says that they won’t release it there for the forseeable future, but we shouldn’t read too much into this.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G

T-Mobile myTouch 3GIt’s not even been 6 months since the first ever Android phone to hit the US market, T-Mobile G1, and now we have another Android based smartphone in the form of the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, which has been made by HTC exclusively for t-Mobile. The T-Mobile myTouch 3G is quite similar to the G1 when looking at the features set, though it is very much slimmer, something that has been well received by many reviewers, including us. There is also no physical QWERTY keyboard, meaning that you will have to manage with the virtual keyboard. The Android 1.5 Cupcake is what runs this smartphone.

The best part of this T-Mobile myTouch 3G is, by far, the super slim body of the phone. Though it is made of plastic, it does have a glossy feel, although we do miss the posh material that was used in the G1. Surprisingly, even the screen is made of plastic, something that we are surprised by, considering that we expected it to be made from glass! Nevertheless, the phone’s build is very solid and feels good in the hand.

The buttons located under the screen are of a good size with the trackball residing in between the keys. The phone makes use of a 3.2 megapixel camera but, sadly, doesn’t have flash. The microSD memory card slot is located under the battery cover but is not under the battery itself, meaning that you won’t have to remove the battery in order to remove the memory card.

Looking at the virtual keyboard, it is nigh impossible to use it in portrait mode due to its cramped nature, so you’ll be better off using it in landscape mode. Navigating through the phone was perfectly fine. Concluding the review, the phone has a large number of features that were found in the G1, but the virtual keyboard as well as the slim body are definite plusses!
