Mobile Today Gets Wind of iPad Price Tag

Apple-iPadAccording to Kate O Flaherty, Senior Reporter for Mobile Today, the newly launched Apple iPad might be getting a price tag of a hefty £816 (which should be lesser if the device gets subsidized by a network operator).

It is a big price to pay for a ready to use net book.

Aside from the fact that the iPad is a lightweight device that is easy to use and hold, the fact that it is a piece of electronic hardware that requires little to no setting up is one of the main reasons why this tablet is very appealing.

No longer will you have to feel lazy about having to wait for your computer or laptop’s slow boot up screen when all you want to do is check on the latest updates on your Facebook page. No longer do you have to make do with the small 3 inch display reading the latest feeds on your mobile phone. The iPad is going to make net access a simple matter of picking up the tablet and tapping the screen; instant and easy.

With a price reaching to £800, is it worth it?

An average net book will set you back by about £400, but that is matter of preference and need. If you are not the type of person who would use a net book and consider desktop computers too much of a hassle to assemble and maintain, then the iPad is pretty much up your alley.

On the other hand, if you already have an iPod Touch and the iPhone, then the tablet may be a little to redundant to have in your household unless you do not already own a computer or a laptop.

Could the iPad really cost so much? –head to the source for the original news.

HTC Smart: Stepping Stone or Stepping Back?

HTC SmartThe HTC Smart will be released sometime during the early part of this year.  The Smart handset will be one of the companies more inexpensive options. It is rumored to be designed for either someone new to the mobile phone market or for those who aren't in a position to spend a lot of money on a handset but who still wants the basics. The hope is that once they become familiar with HTC and begin to feel comfortable with the phone, when they are ready to move up and spend more money, they will do so with the company.

Though the Smart has many of the same the features and specs that a lower priced smartphone might have, it is not a smartphone in the traditional sense. It runs on the Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform. AT&T also has some phones that run on this same platform.

The HTC Smart has a 3.0 megapixel camera which is actually pretty nice.  It runs on a Euro friendly 3G network plus Quadband EDGE. It has 256MB of internal memory. More memory can be added. Individuals that wish to upgrade the amount of memory on the handset will only need to purchase a microSD card.  Individuals will be able browse the Internet, though the phone’s processors speed is pretty slow as 300MHz.

The display is a QVGA touchscreen and is just shy of 3.0 inches (2.8 in).  Individuals will be able to use the phone hands-free via the mobile’s Bluetooth connectivity.  As of right now, there will be no WiFi or GPS.

The Smart is essentially a lower priced, budget phone either for those new to the mobile phone market or who aren’t in the financial position to purchase one of the higher priced smartphones.  This seems to be the trend for 2010.  Many handset manufacturers are looking to offer consumers affordable, mobile phones, not just HTC. Due to the state of the global economy this seems to be an approach that makes sense.

Sony Ericsson Hazel shows that Eco friendly phones do exist

Sony Ericsson Hazel With more and more people beginning to believe that global warming will directly affect them in their lifetime, the opinion on the whole topic is changing, and people are starting to make a difference. Whether it be using energy efficient light bulbs, insulating your house more thoroughly or installing double glazing to help keep the heat in, there are many ways that you can help to make a difference. The new Sony Ericsson Hazel uses unique methods to cut down on the emissions it releases during the manufacturing process as well as benefiting the environment.

To start with, the new Greenheart phone is made from recycled plastic. This allows factories just to melt down and reuse old plastic rather than having to create brand new material. New plastic generates harmful emissions when made, which pollute the atmosphere. All phones come with some sort of manual to tell you how to work the phone. This can often be very thick due to it being written in many different languages. The Sony Ericsson Hazel eliminates this problem by using an E-manual installed on the phone. This is all the same information you would get in the hard copy, but it is on the phone which saves paper, in turn saving the rainforests.

As well as green fingered features, the Sony Ericsson Hazel is also a great performance phone. Featuring a 5 megapixel camera, you can snap up at any time allowing you to never miss a great photo again. Coming with a navigation program installed on the phone, you will never need to use road maps again. After inputting your current location and you destination, you will be guided road by road to your destination. The new Sony Ericsson eco-phone should be released in the next few months so keep an eye out if you want to help make a difference to the environment.

Get the Samsung Galaxy Portal from T-Mobile

Samsung Galaxy Lite i5700There is a new Android phone in town. The Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700 is currently being offered by T-Mobile in its monthly plans (you can get it for free in the £23, 18 month deal) and the mobile network operator will have the device exclusively for the next month.

It is a great deal for an Android smart phone. Considering that most of the new Android smart phones being released lately are high end models, the prices will also in the slightly more expensive too. For Android fans who simply want a basic device that’s updated to a new version, getting the higher end devices is not a financially sound option.

The release of the Portal in the UK is welcome surprise for many fans of the Google operating system as it was originally thought that the device would never be available locally. The Samsung Galaxy Spica originally came out as the Galaxy Lite (meant to be a cheaper alternative to the original Galaxy –which was available in the UK). Anyway, the device got a quick name change for its UK release as the Portal.

The Portal, despite being a budget device, is a fully functional smart phone. The 3.2 inch TFT touch screen provides excellent tracking of finger movements, the screen itself is very responsive to the touch. With a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels (and 16 million colors), the phone is able to handle images and videos easily, providing clear visuals to the user.

The phone also comes with a 3.2 mega pixel camera that has auto focus, geo tagging and of course video capabilities. No LED flash, but as long as you watch the lighting in your shoots, it will not be a problem. Geo-tagging is an excellent option for users who love to upload and share images.
