Is the World Ready for the iPad?
It has been less than a week since the launch of the Apple iPad and so many things have changed. For one thing, Steve Jobs is definitely carrying a much wider smile these days. It comes as to no surprise that iPad has become one of the top internet searches in the UK over the weekend. This powerful device promises to change the way we look at and access the internet for information and entertainment.
During the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards (just a while ago), Stephen Colbert popped out an iPad from his coat, to the applause and laughter of a very large audience –further cementing the tablet’s place in modern society. It is powerful, it is recognizable, and it is well known. The iPad is fast on its way to becoming as much of a cultural icon as the iPod and the iPhone.
So the question now is, are we ready for it?
So far, the price tag on the iPad for the UK has yet to be released, but its US prices are definitely intimidating. Considering that the cost of the 64GB version of the 3G iPad model would cost as much as a powerful laptop, there are certainly a few considerations to be taken. Though in general, the average person would actually be better off investing in the iPad than a laptop.
End users are not the only ones that need to be ready. Service providers such as Vodafone UK and AT&T US have plenty of 3G network upgrading to do. So far, there is no question about UK based Vodafone’s ability to handle heavy 3G traffic. The same cannot be said about AT&T which is constantly criticized by many for being slow and easily congested.
