BlackBerry Protect: Keeping Your Data Safe

Losing a phone can be quite the problem. There are two major loses that are attributed to such a personal device: the financial cost of such an impressive piece of hardware, and of course, the digital content that is stored on the phone. Data containing information on friends, relative, addresses, itineraries, personal notes, shopping lists to business oriented content such as database access applications, private supplier and client data are often stored in BlackBerry handsets.

This is why it is not surprising that RIM has started a new program that would help out BB users who have either misplaced their handsets or have fallen victim to mobile phone theft.

The new BlackBerry Protect system is an online service that gives BlackBerry users a chance to access their mobile phones from a computer. For those who feel that they might have simply misplaced the device. The service allows for users to activate the GPS on the phone and have it ring or alarm loudly in order to be found. This is particularly helpful when you cannot tell whether the device was left at the office or at the house of a friend (at least it saves you a long trip).

In cases where theft is a possibility, more extreme actions could be taken. One of the most impressive things that can be done is to lock out the handset. The device will not be easily accessed by whoever has taken possession of it, and if needed, owners are also able to wipe out the data of the handset completely.

Naturally, such a system would also be dangerous for owners should other people be able to obtain their login information to the BlackBerry Protect service and as such, RIM is taking important steps to ensure that the system has enough fail safes. Currently, BB Protect is running in a closed beta test, and we can expect to hear more about this new service soon.

Mobile Phone Deals for Desire, Wildfire and Bold 9700

If you are itching to buy a new smart phone, then you might want to check on the following offerings from the various network operators. In this list, we are covering the impressive Android smart phones HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire, as well as Blackberry’s Bold 9700.

Of the three, the HTC Desire is getting the most attention from interested smart phone buyers. The device is packed to the brim with features and has hardware that can match that of the Nexus One. This phone has a 5 mega pixel camera, a 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and of course, the Android 2.1 Éclair operating system.

Orange Mobile UK is offering the handset on a couple of really tempting deals; at 25 Pounds a month for 18 months (Dolphin 25 plan), nets you the phone for free with 500 MB of data allowance each month. T-Mobile UK offers the handset at a similar rate, with an 18 month contract with a 25 Pound tariff. The only difference is that T-Mobile gives a better deal with the data allowance –giving users a full 1GB of data.

If the Desire is a little too expensive for your tastes, then you might want to go for the HTC Wildfire. This handset is basically the Desire Lite –with lesser hardware capabilities, but extended social networking functions. Vodafone UK offers the Wildfire for a very low cost of 15 Pounds a month for 24 months. Users will get 300 minutes of talk time, unlimited messages and about 500 MB of data allowance.

New track pad phone looks to out sell predecessors

BlackBerry Pearl 9100With the huge selling success of the BlackBerry Pearl 8100, many people assumed that a new phone would be a lot less success than the first, as it's very hard to beat the high standard set by the 8100. RIM, the designers of BlackBerry's, have accidentally let out that the Pearl 9100 is in final production, and many finished phones have been made and handed out to testers. Although every detail about the phones in not clear, we can gauge a pretty good idea of the phones features and technical side of things.

The keyboard is the largest keyboard on any BlackBerry phone, and allows you much faster and easier typing or dialing, useful for those times where time is not on your side. The Pearl 9100 also comes complete with a optical track pad, which gives you amazing freedom when it comes to navigating your way through the phone, compared to the conventional way, which can take a while for certain destinations to be reached.

The phone comes complete with 3G. This means you can connect to the internet extremely fast, and transfer and receive data a lot faster on the old 8100, which used 2G technology. Updating your favorite sites such as Facebook, MySpace and twitter could not be easier, with special programs designed to connect you in a very short space of time.

If you are looking to get your hands on one of the new BlackBerry Pearl 9100s, or also named the BlackBerry Striker or BlackBerry Stratus, you will have to wait until an official release date is given, but it is not expected to be too much further, and should be within the early months of 2010 with some fabtastic BlackBerry Peal 9100 deals. The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 is a great looking phone, and will not disappoint.

BlackBerry 9100 Images Leaked

BlackBerry Pearl 9100Blackberry has introduced a new entry to the pearl range, the Blackberry Pearl 9100, which has been noted to possess features that are sleeker than its predecessors.

Pictures of the RIM’s latest budget-conscious BlackBerry, the Pearl 9100, have been leaked. Although we are awaiting the comprehensive feature list, the leaked photos provide an insight into this new BlackBerry Pearl.

One notable feature as seen from the images is the track pad. This was first introduced on the BlackBerry 8520 and Bold 9700 which hitherto replaced the rather archaic trackball. This track pad fits superbly on those high-end mobile devices so we can only pray that any cut corners do not affect the sleekness of its central control pad.

The Blackberry Pearl 9100 still utilizes the two letters to a key approach which is the key to the Pearl series even though it depicts a significantly less wide structure than the current 8110 Pearl. According to reports from Crackberry, the Blackberry will come furnished with 3G connectivity so it isn’t a device pulled from the bottom of the barrel.

You can read through the review on BlackBerry Pearl 8110 and take note of its features. It is highly expected that the new Blackberry 9100 Pearl will not deviate seriously from its predecessor.

I will post more juicy tidbits as soon as I obtain more information on this next generation Blackberry. You can keep visiting this corner to be abreast of every development.

BlackBerry Bold 9700 Lives Up to BlackBerry’s Name

Blackberry Bold 9700When the first rumors about the Bold 9700 came out, everyone knew that it would be a messaging phone to be reckoned with; and it is. Sporting the good old ergonomic standards of BlackBerry devices, the Bold 9700 delivers a mobile messaging experience unlike no other.

The Bold 9700 (or Bold 2 as it is known in some circles), combines a full QWERTY keyboard with sensible phone design to make the typing experience both fast and easy. The BlackBerry operating system on the other hand, has been designed to be very intuitive.

Specs and Features

The BlackBerry Bold 2 sports a 2.44 inch TFT LCD with a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels, it can display up to 65 thousand colours. The full QWERTY keyboard sits nicely below the screen, occupying a good half of the device. The keys are located nicely apart despite the tight space and are easy to press.

Precise typing is actually possible thanks to the form of the keys. The BlackBerry track pad on the other hand makes moving around the menu a fast and easy process.

The Bold 9700 also has a 3 mega pixel camera for shooting both images and video. Playback of media is done by the BlackBerry OS, it supports various file types. The phone can be used as a music player thanks to its 35 hour continuous music playback capability.

The internal storage is 256MB, no need to conserve the small space though, the phone has a microSD card slot which allows users to expand the memory as needed.

Bold 9700 on Contracts

At this moment, the Bold 9700 is carried by Vodafone and T-Mobile. Both UK carriers offer the Bold 9700 free for 35 pound per month contracts. Orange Mobile UK will also be offering the device soon (and most probably at a similar deal). Orange has yet to announce when they will have the device on stock as they have it currently listed as ‘coming soon’.

Blackberry 9300 Gemini

Blackberry 9300 GeminiAfter experiencing immense success from the models it introduced over the past few years Blackberry is getting ready for another project; the Blackberry 9300 Gemini. Blackberry 9300 is the working model number it’s assigned and this is expected to be almost a successor for the Blackberry’s 8900 Curve. This new model is expected to be of 3G as all of Blackberry’s previous models which carried the model number that started with a number 9 did so. We expect 9300 will live up to this tradition.
Blackberry has not yet released any information as to when they’re planning on releasing it or any detailed information on the specs. However the little we know suggests that the screen will be somewhat bigger than the 8900 with the resolution also better. CPU will also be a more powerful one although we still do not exactly know what the processing capacity is. We certainly hope it would be something better than the 624MHz processor in the Blackberry Bold. However Blackberry always live up to its expectations so you can expect the best!
There are only slight differences with regard to appearance between this and the 8900; such as the housing being silver and some modifications to the keys, giving them a more round shape. There will be quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. Blackberry has not yet revealed any release date information and it will not be introduced for a long time since Blackberry is still busy replacing some of its other models such as the Curve. It might take a good 3-4 quarters for this phone to be officially released. However it’s worth the wait! Check out the official Blackberry site for more information on the 9300's release date.
Owning a Blackberry phone is not just owning a communication tool, it also acts as a status symbol at the same time. So naturally they are launched at the high-end market for higher prices. But don’t worry. 9300 Gemini contracts will enable you to pay in installments and buy the phone. Further 9300 Gemini deals gives you the best tariffs while offering some cool extra benefits as well. So make sure you check out some Blackberry 9300 Gemini deals and contracts in time for the release.
