Slide with Nokia
As the Nokia Surge went on sale nearly a month ago, rumours starting spreading about a European version of the Surge in the form of the Nokia 6760 Slide. The biggest improvement in the Nokia 6760 Slide when compared to the Surge is the camera, which is now 3 megapixels as opposed to 2 megapixels. The lack of branding from the carrier (AT&T’s ‘marks’ were visible on the Surge) is pretty much the other difference.
The Nokia 6760 Slide, like the Nokia Surge, is powered by the Symbian OS and is a side – slider which reveals the full QWERTY keyboard and 3.6 Mbps HSDPA. Quad-band GSM support is also present in addition to the local connectivity options, which come in the form of Bluetooth, microUSB and a 2.5 mm headset jack.
The AT&T Navigator has been chucked away in favour of Nokia Maps. There are also a large number of messaging software in the form of Google Talk, Nokia Messaging and Windows Live IM. You can also easily access social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. The presence of support for all these social – apps clearly shows that the focus of the Nokia 6760 slide is on developing their presence in the ‘social – centric’ market. The features sheet of the Nokia 6760 slide is rounded off by the 128 MB internal memory, which can be expanded to 8 GB via the microSD memory card slot, and the FM radio. The phone has a standby time of 500 hours and 5 hours of talk time.
The Nokia 6760 slide is set to be made available in the 3rd quarter of 2009 for 199 Euros before taxes or subsidies. Initially, the phone will only be available in black but, with time, the white and the red versions should also make an appearance. However, the latter 2 versions might not be available everywhere.
